Reception have been learning all about mini-beasts for their current topic. We started our learning by welcoming Alex from the Northumberland trust into our class, who bought some special friends with her. Alex kindly showed us different preserved insects and taught us some interesting facts about them all. Reception have also been looking again at Henri Matisse and his art work. We looked at how Matisse used collages and different materials to create some of his work. As a class, we then read the story Matisse’s magical trail before creating our own works of art using his techniques. Reception have also went on a mini-beast hunt, looking for insects up on our field and around our school. We found wood lice, bees, ladybirds and spiders. We were very careful while picking them up and observing them. Reception have then designed mini-beast hotels for our creepy crawly friends to give them somewhere safe to stay and have wrote our own fact file books, about the insects we see daily in our Early Years garden. Reception also used purple mash to create some beautiful insects on our whiteboard and to finish our amazing half term, we have started learning number bonds to ten. We made some number bond butterflies to remind us what two numbers we add together to make the number ten. Reception have loved learning all about mini-beasts and as always, have worked very hard.
