In our RE lesson today, we have been finding out about the Muslim naming ceremony. The naming ceremony lasts for seven days and is called Tasmiyah. The ceremony allows the new baby to be accepted and protected by Allah. Parents take requests for names from family members and the name has to be given to the baby by the seventh day.
We have learned that Muslims must choose a name for their baby that has a strong meaning. This will bring blessings to that child throughout its life.
We went on to learn the meaning of our own names and then decorated bookmarks, showing our name and its meanings.
