Incredible Ice

by Mrs Coxon | Dec 15, 2022 | Art and Design, Early Years Foundation Stage, Latest News, PSHE, Science

Nursery and Reception have been exploring the effect of the changes in temperature. They noticed water freezing outside and enjoyed using their senses to describe what they could see, feel and hear. Some of the ice was so thick we used warm water to try and melt it. We used water colours to paint on the ice and talked about how the colours changed from dark to light. The children were fascinated by items frozen in the ice so we decided to create our own experiment. We filled different containers with grass, flowers, soil and other natural materials. We then poured water in and left it over night. We explored the ice the following day and discussed how the ice had formed and what would happen to it as it became warmer inside the classroom.
