Year 1 have been exploring everyday materials in science. We have been looking at a range of materials and their properties. We found out about which materials floated and which materials sunk. We used this knowledge to build a boat that could float. We tested our boats in water and then tested to see how many pennies our boat could carry before it sunk!
Ella’s boat was able to carry the most at 27 pennies. We looked at her boat design and found out that her boat base was flat and lined with lolly sticks. It also had plastic bobbins on the base of her boat which helped it to stay afloat.
