In Maths this week, the children in Year 6 have begun to formally look at algebra for the first time by exploring function machines. The children learned the meanings of the terms input, output, function and rule.
First, the children calculated the output then they moved on to finding the input from a given output, using the inverse operation. After that, the children explored examples where the input and output were given but the function was not.
The children enjoyed creating their own function machines to challenge each other.
