Appropriate Contact

by Mrs Docherty | Apr 26, 2024 | News, PSHE, Year 1

Year 1 have been talking about physical contact in our PSHE lesson this week. We learned that physical contact is when one person touches another. We thought about the physical contact we like from our family or friends (e.g. hugging, holding hands, stroking hair) and the types of physical contact that no-one likes and are unacceptable (e.g. hitting, biting, pushing). We recorded our ideas around the body outlines.

We practised saying ‘No’ and saying ‘Stop’ if someone does something to us that we don’t like. We talked about the importance of talking to an adult they trust if something is happening to them that they don’t like.
We also discussed how we should ask permission before we do something. For example, if we want to give someone a hug, we can ask them first.
