In PSHE, we have been learning about rights. Rights are rules about what people are allowed to do or have. We learned that everyone has rights and that children and young people have the same rights as adults. They also have special rights. These rights are outlined in a special agreement called the UNCRC which stands for United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In our lesson, we chose to look at two rights from this agreement: Article 15 ‘Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.‘ and Article 31, ‘Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.’
We explored each of these rights by considering what the rights mean for us, what barriers might stop us from benefitting from the right and also considering what we could do to support the right. We worked in groups to collect our ideas together and then discussed our ideas with the rest of the class.
