This term we have been learning about people who help us. First we focused on people who keep us safe. During this learning we focused on police officers, firefighters and construction workers. We discussed the different job roles they have and how they keep us safe. We loved taking part in role play as construction workers, fixing things in our classroom with the tools and building things in the playdough using blocks and playdough as cement. We talked about calling 999 if in need of help but only in an emergency! To finish off this unit of learning we had a visit from Birtley Fire station. During this we saw the different parts to the fire engine and the different tools the Fire Fighters use when they’re in action during an emergency. We got the chance to sit inside the vehicle, use the hose to spray water and saw the sirens flashing blue. After the firemen left we shared which part we enjoyed the most and why. We then moved on to learn about people who keep us healthy. During this topic we focused on dentists, doctors and nurses. We discussed different ways we could keep our teeth healthy; brushing our teeth twice a day and not eating too many sugary foods. We then looked at how to keep our bodies healthy by focusing on how to wash our hands correctly. We used glitter to act as germs. Nursery then used soap and water to wash the germs away. We also focused on the nursery rhyme ‘Miss Polly had a Dolly’. We loved using props to help us sing and act out the song. Within the provision nursery explored brushing teeth on our tuff tray, ensure they were sparkling clean. We were very busy in our writing area cutting out pictures to create get well soon cards for our poorly teddy bear. Nursery also enjoyed taking part in role play in our home corner pretending to be nurses and doctors.
