In Science, Year 2 have been learning about healthy lifestyles. We have looked at the effects of diet, exercise and hygiene on the body.

This week we carried out an experiment to learn why we use soap when we wash our hands. We filled a bowl with water and then sprinkled black pepper on the top to represent germs. When we dipped our fingers into the water, the pepper (germs) stuck to our fingers. We then repeated this, but before we put our fingers in the water, we covered them in liquid soap. We couldn’t believe our eyes when the soap repelled the pepper (germs). Amazingly, hardly any pepper stuck to our fingers.
