All About Us!

by Miss Todd | Oct 4, 2024 | Art and Design, Computing, Early Years Foundation Stage, English, History, PSHE, Reception

Reception have been learning all about ourselves and our families for our current topic. We started by looking at our emotions and how we feel by reading The Colour Monster and The Colour Monster goes to school. Reception then completed activities in the classroom that helped us understand our story and the different emotions that go with it. We also spoke about different events in our lives that might make us feel sad, angry, happy, loved, scared or calm.
Reception then started to explore our own similarities and differences further by creating self portraits and making ourselves with the play-dough, by using a mirror and observing what colour skin, eye and hair colour we have. We then also read Once There Was Giants and looked at our baby photographs, to speak about the different things we did when we were younger, compared to now in Reception. We also read Families, Families, Families and spoke about the different ways a family can be connected together. Reception showed their family photographs to each other and spoke about who they live with. We then completed activities like painting family portraits or creating family photo frames in the tuff tray, to extend our learning. We have really enjoyed learning about each other in our classroom.
