To celebrate this year’s Olympics in Paris, the whole school took part in a range of activities. The children were able to create their own torches at home and there were some fantastic entries. The winner from each class was awarded their very own medal. During the week each class have had the opportunity to apply to be a torch bearer, this was to be able to have the chance to receive and pass on a torch which is touring lots of schools in Gateshead. The children had to think about the Olympic values and whether they displayed any of these qualities. Some of the values included friendship, courage, determination and equality. Following this the children were able to complete a relay where they ran to pass the torch to another child just as it would be when the Olympic torch passes through France and ends at the host city of Paris this year. Other activities included some arts and and crafts in early years as well as each class taking part in some physical activity linked to the values and team work. Discussion was based around competing in the Olympics and how lots of team games are included so working together is very important to achieve the best they can.
