Nursery started off this term by looking at different types of vehicles. In our phonics we have enjoyed singing vehicle based songs such as ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ and ‘Down by the Station’. In our small group we made our own vehicles! We focused on cars, Nursery counted how many wheels a car has. We discussed why we thought the wheels could be circle and not a different shape. We used junk modelling boxes and bottle lids to create our models. Nursery tested out different sticking materials and decided PVA glue would be the most effective. We then painted the cars with a colour of our choice. After making our vehicles we discussed where they could go to, we had some amazing ideas like: Morrisons, the metro centre, the park and even Gran Canaria! Nursery loved using their homework pictures to discuss different vehicles they had seen and telling their friends about their adventures which they had been on. We continued our learning within the provision by exploring different activities. Nursery loved washing the cars in our water tray with the toothbrushes and squirting the soap out of the dispenser, this helped to develop our fine motor muscles. We practiced our number recognition and subitising skills by parking the cars in the correct parking bays. Nursery enjoyed making tyre tracks in the painting area, it was interesting to see the different marks the vehicles made. Nursery worked extremely hard washing the bikes in our outside car wash, they are sparkling clean now! We have also enjoyed working as a team to build our own vehicles using the construction blocks. We made a bus and an aeroplane!
