Reception have had such a busy couple of weeks, learning about mini-beasts. We made different types of mini-beast art ,which includes using our cutting and sticking skills to make collages like the artist Henry Matisse, which we have previously learnt about. We made some lovely paintings of insects and also used paper plates to make our fabulous ladybirds. We have also designed our own bug hotels by drawing them and then labelling the materials we would use for them outside, before designing them with lollipop sticks and straws. Reception have used their maths knowledge to make doubling butterflies by using dabbers on the butterflies wings to show which two numbers we can double to make another number. Reception also went on a mini-beast hunt in our Early Years garden, to spot which mini-beasts we could find and used a tick sheet to record our findings. Reception have also worked so hard at practicing writing mini-beasts names, while we investigated them in our tuff tray. We then had a chance of making our own mini beasts with natural objects. Reception also made mini-beast puppets and practiced writing sentences to describe our insects. Reception have also had a go at making mini-beast fossils in the play-dough area by pressing them down to make different imprints and then explored the different shapes they made. Reception have also started looking at directional language and used Bee bot robots to move around our classroom. We took turns to tell the bee bot which directions to go in, by pushing the buttons in a sequence to move, including forwards, backwards, left and right, so it would follow our instructions .
