Year 3 were lucky enough to have another visit from the Birtley Heritage group who joined us to talk about the up coming 80th anniversary of D-Day on 6th June. The children were able to learn about D-Day and why it was significant during World War 2. The children discussed ‘Operation Overload’ and how this was carried out by the soldiers involved. They also learned about a range of transport including tanks and boats but also parabikes. Paratroopers were given parabikes which were special folding bikes to travel on when landing on D-Day and use these to get around. Year 3 then made flags and bunting to celebrate the anniversary using facts they had learned.
