As part of Science Week, Year 5 were invited to a transition workshop at Lord Lawson. Our lesson was all about cells and how they appear when magnified using a microscope.
First, we prepared our own slides using onion slices and drops of iodine. Next we placed our slides under the microscope and adjusted it until we had a clear view. We thought the cells looked like bubbles!
Once we’re confident using the microscope, we enjoyed exploring a range of other slides, from a blood smear to a part of a lung. Some of them made us gasp because the cells looked so surprising. We really enjoyed our trip out.
