Year 5 have enjoyed a fantastic visit to Washington Wetlands Centre. We were able to explore the different areas and saw a huge variety of wildlife. We walked out to Hawthorn Wood and visited the hide there. By sitting quietly, we were able to see lots of different birds visiting the feeders. We saw a range of water birds including cranes, heron and a black swan sitting on his nest of eggs. We also had the opportunity to see the otter family and the flamingos being fed.
In the afternoon, we worked with our partners to carry out a pond dip. We found so many interesting creatures in the pond and learned about their habitat. We then visited the River Wear learned about plastic pollution and how it affects the habitats of wildlife.
