In our DT lessons, we have been finding out about important Chinese inventions such as paper, gunpowder, the compass and moveable-type printing. We also learned that the kite is a Chinese invention that was used for military purposes. Kites would be used to send signals or measure long distances. They could also have been used to
scare the enemy by attaching bells and whistles to the kite.

We went on to design and make our own kites. We explored a range of materials and considered which would be appropriate to achieve the success criteria. Our kites needed to be strong, light and look attractive.
