As part of our Geography unit this term ‘What’s the weather like in the UK?’ Year 1 have been learning how to use various maps, atlases and Google Earth.
Yesterday the children identified the compass on our classroom map, so we decided to find out what this was all about. We worked in groups and went outside to find North and then experimented with different directions by setting each other challenges.
We then drew our own compass on our maps of Barley Mow. The children also really enjoyed making their own mnemonic to help us remember North, East, South and West- Naughty, Elephants, Squirt, Water was definitely our favourite.
