Reception have been learning all about the season, Winter! We discussed during circle time how the weather changes. Lots of children spoke about how it gets colder, frosty, icy and sometimes we get snow. We discussed that the environment needs to be very cold for a liquid to freeze, like the freezer. We then discussed how ice melts. Reception then made predictions about whether the cold water, warm water, salty water or sugary water would melt the ice the quickest. We carried out an experiment using pipettes and ice cubes. We discussed our findings after. We noticed the warm water was the quickest. The children then applied their knowledge to the water tray outside which had frozen over. We poured warm water over the ice to melt it.
