Year 5 had a great day taking part in the Road to RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo) Glider Challenge day.

We began by learning that a glider soars through the air without the help of a motor. They have wings, a tail, a cockpit and a fuselage. We learned about the forces that act on a glider during flight and discussed how gliders need to be aerodynamic to reduce air resistance.

Using our new learning, we went on to design and make gliders. We experimented with changing wing and tail shapes. When our group had completed our gliders, we were able to test them to see how far they could travel through the air.
