In DT, the children in Year 6 have been learning about Victorian food.
The children began the unit by comparing the diets of poor and wealthy Victorian families. Then, they sampled gruel (a food eaten by poor Victorians). The children thought this was disgusting!
Following this, the children planned and designed afternoon tea, which is a meal that could have been eaten by a wealthy Victorian family. For the afternoon tea, the children made Victoria sponge cakes (measuring out and combining the ingredients prior to baking) and cucumber sandwiches. Everyone was very happy with the food they created!
