Year 2 have been developing their sketching skills and observational drawings. The children looked at the works of the French artist Henri Rousseau who is best known for his paintings of the jungle, teeming with leaves and branches.
In particular, we looked at his most famous piece called ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm’. We found out that Rousseau never actually visited a jungle and instead developed his drawing by sketching at botanical gardens in Paris. We decided to be just like Rousseau and went out and about in our school gardens to sketch plants and trees which were interesting shapes and sizes.
We then looked closer at the trees in his painting and tried hard to weave and layer lines to look like the branches.
