As part of our ‘States of Matter’ unit in Science this term, we looked today at the process of melting and tried to reason about which of a range of materials would do so.
We had some fantastic discussions as a class and were able to give real worlds examples for some such as ice lollies and snow men, and were able to use our real life experiences to reason about unknown items. We used our knowledge of rocks, studied in Year 3, to reason that some stones would melt and some would act differently under the heat.
We identified that some objects could not melt because they were already a liquid so realised that melting is when a solid turns into a liquid.
