We had a surprising change in temperature recently and the children in Nursery and Recption were fascinated. The children watched the snow fall and wondered if the snow would be deep enough to build a snowman. The children linked their learning indoors by drawing snowmen and talking about how snow melts when the weather is warmer. We talked about how it can be unusual for snow to fall in the Spring time.
The children had the opportunity to explore the snow outdoors. They loved describing the sound of the crunching, fresh snow as well as the splat noise of the melting snow. We talked about how we use our balance and muscles to help us stay on our feet when the snow is slippy.
The children worked together to make a snowman and enjoyed searching for objects to use for the face. There was lots of talk around the cold, freezing snow and how it had filled our outdoor water tray with ice. Throughout the day, the sun could be seen and the children observed how the snow was melting.
