Year 3 have enjoyed being pedologists today. A pedologist is a scientist who studies soil.
The pupils had a walk around the school grounds to locate where they could find soil in their locality – we discussed what soil is, how it is formed and why it is important. The children had some fantastic ideas for why soil is important!
In the classroom, we sketched 3 different soil samples. Then the children investigated their colour, texture and moisture. Finally, the pupils ordered the soils under the three headings above.
