Year 1 have enjoyed a workshop with Mel from NUSTEM this afternoon. We found out about the job that naval architects do and learned that they must be curious, organised and creative to carry out their work. We had to make our own boats from a ball of plasticene and also from a piece of tin foil before testing to see if they floated. We thought carefully about what shape our boats needed to be in order to float and also learned that our boats needed sides to stop water getting in. Finally, we tested how many washers our boats could hold before they sunk. We had lots of fun and learned a lot too.
