Year 2 have been learning about the life and achievements of George Stephenson in history. To help us find questions to our enquiries we visited The Locomotion Museum in Shildon. We had a jam packed day looking at old artefacts and exploring the museum looking how trains have evolved through time.
It was intriguing finding out how George Stephenson’s life began and how his inventions helped to change the world of transport. We now realise why he is so important and why his picture is on the back of banknotes! It’s even MORE amazing that he is from Wylam in Northumberland which is not far from Birtley!
Local history is certainly fascinating!
