This term, Year 4 have been learning all about Ancient Egypt. One of the questions that they kept asking was, ‘How do we know so much about the Ancient Egyptians when they lived so long ago?’
To answer this question, they learned all about the role of archaeologists.

They acted in the role and discovered some artefacts in our classroom, carefully uncovering the tools and images from Ancient Egypt. They learned about the skills of patience, precision and history knowledge which are all required by archaeologists.

They also learned all about the Rosetta Stone and the role it played in allowing Egyptian hieroglyphics to be translated so we could learn about the Egyptian way of life. They also learned about Howard Carter and his discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. They played the role of the famous archaeologist on the day of his discovery and imagined how he must have felt.

They looked at lots of artefacts found in Egyptian tombs and thought about what their discoveries have allowed us to learn about daily life in Ancient Egypt. They came up with great ideas and were able to use all their new found skills as archaeologists!
