We have been reviewing the rules for writing speech in Year 5. To help us to remember the rules, we used a speech sandwich. The bread represents the inverted commas, the pickle represents the punctuation needed within the speech, the cheese represents the words spoken and the person plate represents the reporting clause. After learning the rules for writing speech, the children practised writing their own speech and checked they had punctuated it correctly by making their own speech sandwiches! Thankfully, everyone punctuated their speech correctly and enjoyed their delicious sandwiches!
