Today Year 2 have been to visit Bessie Surtees House to learn about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle. We worked in the house in the morning, finding out about Victorian people and the jobs they had. In the afternoon we went down to the quayside and investigated the scene of the fire (on both sides of the River Tyne). We also explored St Mary’s Church, which is now a heritage centre.
