Last week we spent an amazing day at Newcastle Castle. We found out about what the castle looked like 700 years ago and explored the only 2 buildings which now remain. We investigated the defences which the castle had all of those years ago – a dry moat, a drawbridge, a portcullis, another door, arrow slits and guards. It must have been a very secure castle. We loved the great hall inside the castle keep, where we did a Medieval dance and we loved exploring the different dungeons which there were.
During the afternoon we found out about what made a good knight, then we tried on some of the armour. It was very heavy, especially the chain mail. At the end of the session we watched a battle between two knights which had been acted out at the castle – it was very exciting!
