We have been following in the footsteps of the famous author, JK Rowling and writing our own Harry Potter story. During one of our lessons, we wrote a section of the story describing when Harry got lost in the forest. Our main focus for our writing was to describe the forest setting. We used our senses to explain in detail the sounds, smell and feel of the forest, as well as what Harry could see whilst he struggled to find his way out.
Read some of our setting descriptions.
Do they paint a dramatic picture which captures the atmosphere of the forest?
The forest mist surrounded him like a pack of wolves.
The velvety darkness of the forest covered him like a black cloak.
A carpet of dead leaves lay under his cold, worn feet.
The tree’s branches were crooked and vicious, scratching him like a lion trying to protect itself.
