Today Year 4 have been Egyptian embalmers! We decided to mummify a tomato to find out how mummification worked in Ancient Egypt. We began by washing and cleaning the tomato (the body). Then we sliced it open and removed the seeds (the organs). After that we poured a mixture of salt and bicarbonate soda into the tomato.  Over the next few weeks we will observe what happens and monitor any changes. We have predicted that the salt will absorb the water in the tomato and dry it out. We also think it will become heavier and change colour therefore we weighed our tomatoes so that we can compare over time.

We are all excited to see the results.
