During the war,  many cities were targeted by German aircraft. These were dangerous and deadly times.  People needed to protect themselves from the attacks so air raid shelters were introduced. People were warned of a likely air raid by a loud siren. They would stop what they were doing and head straight for shelter.

There were two main types of shelters used:

  • Anderson shelters  – which were built in gardens and made from corrugated iron sheets.
  •  Morrison shelters – which were made from heavy steel and used inside your home.

As a class we decided to design and make our very own Anderson shelters. We researched them further on the internet to try and make our designs realistic. We think we’ve done a fantastic job. Do you?
