Year 5 enjoyed the space workshop at Northumbria University’s ‘Think Lab;’ we learned about the complex mission of a spacecraft named Rosetta. Launched on 2nd March 2004, Rosetta took 10 years to reach comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P.) Her main task was to search for the perfect landing site for the space probe, called Philae. Once deployed, Philae carried out experiments and gathered information about the comet, to send back to scientists on Earth.
We also carried out our own experiments, similar to those done by Philae, testing sand samples for water and sugar content.
