Year 5 visited the Archaeology Museum at Durham University to learn about the Ancient Greeks. We really enjoyed handling Greek artefacts which gave us an insight into how the Greeks lived and worked. Our guides, Ross and Dan, even let us handle some very precious artefacts from the Greek period! We then went into the museum and translated Greek names, played an Ancient Greek game using knuckles (fake knuckles of course!) and built a Greek temple! In the afternoon, we re-enacted a famous Greek play and learnt about the Greek electoral system. Finally, we made our own Greek Ostracas, which were made of clay and were used to cast votes. Our favourite part of the day was learning about Greek democracy as we were able to create our own election promises and vote to determine who our new leader would be!
