Today, our pupils (and staff) have been dealing with an outbreak of Greeniditty! The primary cause has been identified as a fund raising day for MacMillan Cancer Support. In the last year, lots of people have had their lives touched by the blight that is Cancer, in all sorts of forms. Most recently, we lost one of our friends, Mrs Marie Marsh, to the disease. Her son, Steven, is in the middle of a fund raising venture for MacMillan Cancer Support, to show his family’s gratitude for the support they gave his Mum. He recently completed the Great North Run and is now about to do the Basingstoke Half Marathon. We thought about joining him, but quickly came to our senses! Instead, our Pupils’ School Council asked if we could have a Green Day in school. That’s exactly what we’ve had today and joined it to the MacMillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event (taking place tomorrow 27th September). Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our parents (and staff), a joint Green Day & Coffee Morning has raised a total of £350, which will be donated to the charity in memory of Mrs Marsh. We are so very proud of our School Council for caring about other people not as lucky as we are. Our Barley Mow family really is the best in Birtley, if not the world! 🙂
