At the Planning & Development Committee meeting of Gateshead Council held on Wednesday September 2nd 2009, unanimous approval was given to the planning application for our new school! This means that we are now able to move forward to the construction stage.

We are grateful for the input from all involved in our consultations, whether pupils, parents or neighbours – your involvement has meant that this decision seems to have been, in the end, a straightforward one.

What it should mean is that over the course of the next few days and weeks, we should see the arrival of internal boundary fencing, to mark out the development site, and also a variety of construction equipment to begin the work. Additionally, the developers will be siting the construction compound on Athlone Place.

We look forward to some well earned publicity for our project as it is the first in a 14 year programme for Gateshead schools – yet again Barley Mow leads the way!
