As a school we value the thoughts, ideas and opinions of all our children and the School Council is one way of ensuring the voice of the children is heard and has an impact on the development of the school.
Class Representatives from across the school are elected by their classes at the beginning of each academic year. These children then have an extremely important job to do:
- They are responsible for the ongoing process of collecting the thoughts, ideas and opinions of the children in their class and reporting back to the Council.
- They bring new ideas forward for how we can improve our school and local environment. They sometimes come to the meetings with ideas of fund raising for the school and for other local or national charities.

The children are all very enthusiastic and eager to make sure their pupil voice is heard.
They are already planning a Halloween Disco and raising money for Children in Need and NSPCC.
School Council 2016 -2017
School Council were extremely active last year. They helped to organise raising money for Children in Need, in November and raised a fabulous £140 for the charity.
In July they helped Year 6 to plan a fair to raise money for the local charity Daft as a Brush.
In July, they also enjoyed a visit to the Mayor’s Parlour. They were able to meet the current Gateshead Mayor, Councillor Pauline Dillon, learn about the role of the Mayor, try on the robes and ask questions. It was a great visit and everyone learned a lot.
Thanks you to last year’s School Council for being so fabulous and for being wonderful ambassadors for our school.
School Council 2015 -2016
During 2015-2016 School Council organised a Pyjama Disco and talked to classes about supporting one main charity for the year which was Cancer Research. They also launched a playground competition and used the children’s ideas to improve the playground.
School Council Visit to the Mayor’s Chamber 2015
Our School Council visited the Mayor’s Chambers, we met the Mayor and he showed us all the important things he has to wear when he is carrying out official duties. He was very kind and let us try on his hat! Nathan thought it would be interesting to sit in his chair in the Council Chamber – he had to get out quick before the Council Members came in for their meeting. Abigail and Ellie-Rose enjoyed the biscuits! We had a very interesting visit and learnt a lot about how the Council is organised. Dylan and Maddison could possibly be Mayor of Gateshead in the future.
