On Tuesday 26th September 2017 Year 2 went to Bessie Surtees House to learn about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle. In the morning we worked in the house finding out about Victorian people. This included acting out how the fire was discovered and exploring artifacts relating to Victorian jobs. In the afternoon we went down to the quayside and investigated the scene of the fire (on both sides of the River Tyne). We also explored St Mary’s Church, which is now a heritage centre.

We also enjoyed looking at landmarks that we have been learning about in Geography, The Sage, The Baltic, and the bridges over the River Tyne.

We all had a fantastic time.
